Maid Marilyn?
Hi, everybody! I’m Marilyn Lopez and I have started this writing caper so I can share my interest in something a little unusual, gambling. I’m just an ordinary mum with two young kids, two boys, Jason 6 and Peter 8, and I live in Nottingham, England. You know the place I’m sure. Robin Hood and Maid Marion, Little John and Friar Tuck all working to get under the skin of the Sherriff. Bows and arrows and castles and moats and the forests and lots of adventure. Well, that’s what I always think about even though I live here!
My darling husband works at the University as a lecturer in Environmental Engineering and I work remotely from home for a company that employs me to do some typing. Working from home fits in very well with our lifestyle as I can work during the day while the boys are at school. The extra income for a two-child family with a mortgage is rather handy.
Online Poker
I’m not addicted to gambling but I do get rather involved with a group playing online poker, Texas Hold ‘em. My husband and I also buy lottery tickets every week, but then again, doesn’t everyone? We all dream of winning that £10 million and living a life of utter luxury. There are two types of online poker that you can play. Choose real money or play money. I opened an account and play with real money but only on occasion and only for small stakes. There are some crazy gamblers online and it’s amazing how your little £15 bank can grow quite quickly with some clever play.
Risking Some Hard Earned
I hope it doesn’t sound like I am addicted because that’s not true but sometimes the hours tick by and one can become unaware of just how long one plays online. Have any of you looked at other forms of gambling? It’s kind of interesting to see how, with a bit of capital, you can make a more than reasonable living from gambling. For example, my online poker account started at £15 and after just 3 months there is £97 in there. If you multiplied that by 100, so you started with a £1500, and played the same way with the same result, you would have £9700.
Tips on Beating the Odds
I know it doesn’t work like that in real life because betting large amounts when you can’t afford it can be extremely stressful. There is an added risk with online gambling because computers control the outcome and you have no idea as to how the algorithms have been. If I had the money to spare I would love to be let loose on the different forms of gambling for 12 months to see how I go. Here’s some interesting info for you to look at.
- Horse Racing. Favourites win 32% of the time, they run a place 69% of the time.
- Lotto. It’s true that random is best but if you spend the money, you would take 2 or 3 series of numbers that overlap. Even if you don’t win 1st Division, your collect on the minor divisions can be a tidy profit.
- Poker.Know your odds for the hands. Sitting with the K, Q, J, and 10 of the same suit in your hand might look good, but the chance of you getting the same suit A is one in 650,000.
- Roulette.Single number selections are for dreamers and it’s exciting to see them win but you can win playing this game with odds of 2/1, 3/1 and 6/1 selections. That’s Black, Red, Odd, Even and streets.
Just a few things I have been mulling about with online gambling. It’s so easy now to register online and get started that it’s no wonder gambling companies are all doing well. People love to gamble. I do, but with moderation. Only bet what you can afford and have fun. Don’t forget to email me and share your story if you like to be a bit naughty and gamble a bit. I won’t tell anybody!
